Founded in 1774 on a Florentine piazza that was itself a crossroads for writers and intellectuals, Pineider arrives in Milan in precisely the place where the city came to buy literature. The symbolic continuity is almost too perfect. The interior design pays homage to the building's original architectural character: plaster moldings crafted by hand, encaustic floor tiles produced by a historic Sicilian manufacturer, and above all the great central skylight and the courtyard windows, both restored and brought back to their full, luminous presence.
