1774

Mr. Francesco Pineider, from Val Gardena, opened his first stationery shop, in Piazza della Signoria, (at the time Piazza del Granduca) in Florence. Some personalized printed letters drawn from Anglo-Saxon and Germanic traditions were sold for the first time in Italy.

1800

Pineider’s shop became a mandatory stop for Grand Tour travellers who arrived to Florence, a city symbol of the educated class, including literates as well as politicians. Among the first visitors were Stendhal, Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Giacomo Leopardi and Napoleon.

1864

The Maison prints the first pocket guide of Florence.

1865

Florence is the new Italian capital: embassies, ministries, state offices and sovereigns become the brand’s customers.

1870

Rome became the Capital of the kingdom; Pineider opens a shop in the Eternal City to cater to the needs of the Royal Court.

1884 ca.

Pineider enters the writing instruments market, designing the first fountain pen and patenting an ink loading system.

1890 ca.

Pineider enters the leather good market: leather goods to store papers and pens. Pineider includes in its assortment, high-end leather products for the desks of prestigious and professional figures of the time.

1900

The personalized paper, the pens guaranteed for life and the extraordinary writing desk sets are distributed worldwide thanks to the appreciation shown by politicians, literates, public figures and celebrities (among them Luigi Pirandello, Maria Callas, Elizabeth Taylor, Luchino Visconti, Rudolf Nureyev).

1966

A destructive flood in Florence compromised the precious furnishings and historical archives of the store. In the same year, the shop is renewed: Danilo Santi designed the new interiors.

2001

Italian Government chooses Pineider as one of the official suppliers for the G8 Summit in Genoa.

2009

The Heads of state at the G8 Summit in L’Aquila receive as gifts some Pineider products selected by the Italian Government.

Opening of a new store in Piazza de’ Rucellai in Florence.

2012

Re-styling of the store in Rome at Via dei Due Macelli.

2014

Pineider celebrated its 240 years anniversary with the 'Ego 240', limited edition of writing instruments.

2017

The brand’s re-birth is accomplished by a new shareholder, the Rovagnati family, which with a profound passion for Italian quality, history and craftsmanship, re-launches Pineider in its historic three areas: fine papers, writing instruments and functional leather goods.
